Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Project Showcase 2025

May 27, 2025

As part of the Human Computer Interaction (CO2224) module, students from the 2021/2022 academic year showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills by designing and presenting improved versions of existing applications and systems through prototyping, under the guidance of Ms. Y. Kalyani, the subject coordinator.

The projects covered a wide range of domains, including campus websites, learning management systems (LMS), government applications, banking apps, and other commonly used digital platforms. Each team demonstrated how their redesigned solutions addressed usability challenges, enhanced user experience, and provided innovative features.  Each team identified real problems such as poor navigation, missing features, or lack of feedback and provided thoughtful design solutions grounded in HCI principles. A total of 13 teams participated, each selecting an existing digital platform and reimagining it not just to improve its appearance, but to address usability issues and introduce features that users often wish for. The redesigns were guided by Nielsen’s Heuristic Principles, ensuring that every solution focused on enhancing usability, efficiency, and overall user experience.

The event took place on May 27, 2025, with an esteemed panel present for the evaluation. The panel included the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Head of the Department of Computer Science, the Head of the Department of Physical Sciences, a Systems Analyst, along with other members of the department staff.

Their participation not only ensured a comprehensive evaluation of the projects but also provided students with valuable feedback and recognition for their efforts. The showcase highlighted the importance of user-centered design and demonstrated the students’ ability to apply HCI principles in real-world contexts.
